Elizabeth McDermott May I was introduced to painting early in life by my Mom who was a painter after a career drawing cartoon characters for Terry Tunes and employment at Norcross Greeting Cards in New York City. I studied art during my undergraduate studies at Southern CT State Unviersity and later went to art school at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA.
I recently moved back to New Mexico to further explore pleine aire painting and have been enjoying the play of light between the mountains, mesas and valleys, as well as the constantly changing seasons and amazing cloud formations. My work was shown previously in the Artists Forum Gallery in Pacific Grove, CA; Beeches Gallery in Carmel, CA and Tonantzin Galery in San Juan Battista, CA. I participated in the Art and Wine Festival in Carmel and recieved a Best in Show for oil painting at the Monterey County Fair and many second and third place awards. I participated in PAPNM juried shows for the last few years and recently received an Award of Excellence for oil painting in the 2019 juried pleine aire show.
